A review of the Dr. On Demand App for a UTI.
I woke up this week feeling the undeniable symptoms of a urinary tract infection coming on. Just the day before I was talking to a friend about how I had not had one of those in years.
And Bam. The universe woke me up and said hey, we heard you! Here is one since you have been without for so long!
So there I was suffering from some mild discomfort. I tried a few over the counter and home remedies which provided some temporary relief. But by the end of the night misery had started to set in.
I decided to try Dr. On Demand for UTI diagnosis and treatment. Here is my review of the experience.

Dr. On Demand Review for UTI
Previously I had thought of Dr. on Demand as a service for a common cold/sinus infection and that was about it. However, once my symptoms started I went to my friends at Google and promptly found out that Dr. on Demand could handle UTI diagnosis and treatment.
For a full list of things that they can treat, including mental health, click here.
Yes! So off I went (to my couch I mean because that is the beauty of this service).
Dr. On Demand Appointment Process
You have two choices when making an appointment. It is nice to have these options because depending on your time or your preferences, you can choose the best experience for you.
Choosing Your Future Appointment Time and Doctor
You can make an appointment and choose your physician. This is the route that I chose because I wanted to see a female for this issue.
It was somewhere around 6:15 am when I logged into the app and there were several appointments available at 7 am.
I chose a doctor, answered a couple of brief questions about my reason for the visit and then closed the app.
Then a few minutes before your appointment you open the app. So at 6:57 I opened the app and at 7:00 on the dot my physician was ready (although they do have a note to allow up to 15 minutes for your doctor to arrive).
First Available Physician
You will also have the option to do a first available option. This might be good if you don’t care about selecting your provider and you want to see a doctor now vs. setting up a future time.
I checked the app at a few different times the day before when I had started thinking about trying out the service.
I saw some different wait times but most ranged from 1-7 minutes at the times I checked.
What The Appointment Is Like
Once your appointment begins, you will be video conferencing with the doctor that has been selected. The video will proceed very much like a normal appointment in a regular office.
There will be quick introductions and the physician will ask you what brings you to the appointment. You will briefly describe your symptoms or problem.
The Dr. will then proceed to ask you diagnostic questions in order to make the call on your diagnosis and treatment.
At my appointment, the doctor also gave me instructions on pressing on specific places on my lower abdomen and back. She did this to rule out other potential causes of my pain.
Treatment
If the doctor decides that you need a pharmaceutical intervention to help cure your illness, they will call in a prescription to your chosen pharmacy. It is that easy.
No hoops to jump through. Just head to your pharmacy and pick up your meds. No hassle.
The Dr. on Demand website also states that they have the ability to conduct labs and screenings. I’m not exactly how that works since my illness did not require that type of intervention.
What I Loved About Dr. On Demand
There were several things that I really liked about this service and is the reason I wanted to write this Dr. On Demand review for UTI. Here are my favorite reasons to use the app.
Time Saver
I knew that even going to an urgent care center at a grocery store or pharmacy would take me at least an hour at the facility typically. Then factor in drive time too. And that is on a good day. Last year when my daughter had the flu, I was at one of those clinics for almost two hours.
When I used Dr. On Demand yesterday, my appointment was at 7:00 and I was off the phone at 7:03.
Can you believe that! It was amazing. We are all busy and not having to spend hours at the doctor’s office is amazing in my book. Now you don’t have to try and squeeze in an appointment on your lunch break.
Rest At Home
If you are really not feeling well and staying home from work or school, sometimes the thought of sitting upright in an uncomfortable chair at the doctor’s office sounds unbearable.
With the Dr. on Demand service, you can wait at home in the comfort of your bed or couch while you wait on you treatment.
Avoid Other People’s Illnesses
As we move into the upcoming flu season, the last thing that I want to do is catch the flu while I’m waiting to see someone about a UTI.
And you know what else? I don’t want my toddler that is usually with me to be exposed either. I have no doubt he would be licking the floor while we were there so I would just rather not go!
Payment for Dr. On Demand Treatment
So how much does it cost? When thinking about writing this Dr. On Demand review for UTI, I knew this would be a qustion for many including myself.
My regular visit was $75.
They do take insurance buy unfortunately the plan that we have doesn’t allow virtual visits. You can easily check your plan’s eligibility by entering your information on their platform and it will tell you if it is covered or not.
For me, the convenience was worth paying out of pocket. When I considered the co-pay that I would pay at my regular doctor and then the coupon that I had, I wasn’t paying much more than I would otherwise.
And it was worth it to me to be able to have a 3 minute appointment in my living room while the kids slept and before work. It would cost me more to take a couple of hours off work or to get a babysitter for my little ones.
