Trim Healthy Mama Ice Cream

September 23, 2019 by Stacy Craft 1 Comment

Frozen dessert recipes and on plan Trim Healthy Mama Ice Cream that can be store bought.

5 Trim Healthy Mama Ice Cream and Other Frozen Dessert Recipes

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Trim Healthy Mama ice cream!  Today in our THM A to Z post, we are discussing all things ice cream (and other frozen treats).

How ironic that this is being published on the first day of fall and it is still in the nineties here. Hopefully some of you are experiencing some nice and brisk fall weather. I don’t know about you but I eat ice cream year round. Ice cream knows no season in my THM home.

If you would like to start at the beginning, you can check out the entire Trim Healthy Mama A to Z post here.

Trim Healthy Mama Ice Cream

Ice cream is one of my favorite things. Really I love all forms of frozen treats – ice cream, popsicles, frozen yogurt. The thought of not being able to indulge in a cold and creamy dessert is something that I luckily didn’t have to worry about on my THM journey.

There are lots of Trim Healthy Mama options to satisfy your desire for a frozen dessert. And there is something for everyone. Homemade and extraordinary, homemade and super easy and of course some store bought options for our Drive Thru Sue mamas.

Store Bought THM Frozen Dessert Options

Simple is key for some of us most of the time and everyone needs easy at least once in a while. I am not shy about admitting that I am not a big THM baker. Not that you bake ice cream but you get my point.

I don’t mind cooking and although I do love baking and making dessert, I don’t find joy in THM baking. Not sure why, I just don’t. So I work hard on finding THM treats that I can purchase ready to eat at the store (or at least very easy to create recipes).

THM ice cream is no different. I like having some store bought options that can satisfy my sweet tooth in a pinch. So here are a few options if you are in the same boat that I am.

Ready to Eat THM Frozen Treats

Halo Top THM FP Ice Cream Treat

Halo Top – This is in the regular ice cream area at my grocery store and sold by the pint.

Fuel Type: FP (Meaning you can eat it with a S or an E meal)

Serving Size: 1/2 Cup

Notes: This item does have real cane sugar. It is a small amount which is why it is permitted on plan as a personal choice. It should be an occasional treat not an every day thing.

Sundae Shoppe Protein Ice Cream

Sundae Shoppe Protein Pints – This is similar to Halo Top but sold exclusively at Aldi.

Fuel Type: FP (Meaning you can eat it with a S or an E meal)

Serving Size: 1/2 Cup

Notes: Same as the Halo Top – This item does have real cane sugar. It is a small amount which is why it is permitted on plan as a personal choice. It should be an occasional treat not an every day thing.

*This brand has protein Popsicles too that are very good and also a personal choice.

Trim Healthy Mama Frozen Treat Recipes

There are also lots of other ways to indulge in a healthy and on plan treat if you don’t want to purchase a personal choice item at the store.

By making your own dessert, you control the ingredients and can often times save money (because although lovely, those little pints can increase your grocery bill).

Several of your favorite THM Bloggers sent me their favorite frozen treat recipes to share with you today. Here is the list!

Trim Healthy Mama And Your Husband

September 22, 2019 by Stacy Craft Leave a Comment

Trim Healthy Mama and your husband can go hand in hand (without having to cook multiple meals)!

Trim Healthy Hubby - Tips for the On plan and Off plan Spouse

Thanks for joining today from the Trim Healthy Mama A to Z series! Today we are on letter “H” and it is all about your sweet husband.

I get it. Trim Healthy Mama doesn’t sound real manly. Your husband might not be jumping to join your new plan. And that is ok.

We will discover ways to make progress on Trim Healthy Mama and your husband won’t go hungry either!

(Affiliate Links are used in this post. A small commission may be paid to me at no extra cost to you and that helps to support this page. Please see my disclosures page for additional information.)

What If He Isn’t Interested In THM?

He might not be interested in Trim Healthy Mama and that is totally okay. He may not even be super supportive on the front end due to fear of his dinners turning into “diet” food.

We Trim Healthy Mama’s get it! We don’t want to eat small plates of diet food either.

Thankfully my husband is always open to my crazy ideas. When I first told him about THM, I called it just that T-H-M. I didn’t want to say Trim Healthy Mama because it sounds like it is just for women and I thought it would turn off his listening ears.

If he doesn’t want to join you on the journey, I personally wouldn’t push the issue. I bet after a few weeks of seeing what you eat, he might have a different opinion. And a lot of meals can do double duty and serve on and off plan family members during his decision phase.

What If My Husband Or Family Won’t Eat THM Meals?

Are you having nightmares about cooking multiple meals before you even start because your family is not on board? No worries! There are so many ways that you can make this work by making just slight modifications to meal times.

Although my husband is generally on board with my THM dinners, there are certain things that he just will not eat (hello cauliflower).

Also, we have two young children in the house that need crossovers more regularly. And quite frankly, my husband also needs some crossovers even when he is trying to shed a few pounds.

So here are several different ideas that I implement to make dinner time work for our whole household.

Breakfast

I usually feel like breakfast is the easiest because THM or not, we often eat different meals at breakfast. So I don’t mind making a bowl of cereal for one kid and a boiled egg for another. But if you want some easy ways to streamline the meal, here are some ideas.

Cereal
* Server family member’s preferred cereal for non-THM, Power O’s or Ezekeial for THM

Bacon & Eggs
*No adaptation needed! For my husband, I might add a couple of pieces of sprouted toast which would create a XO but I would not eat the toast.

Dinner

Supper is the one meal that I pretty much refuse to make different meals for individual family members. I’m tired after working all day and taking care of kids. Getting dinner on the table is my win and I can’t make 5 different choices!

Sometimes it will mean having one extra dish to clean but it does keep us all having the same main meal.

Here is how I make it work.

Spaghetti
*Serve Dreamfields pasta for everyone or regular pasta for non-THM and spaghetti squash or zoodles for THM.

Tacos
*Serve regular taco shells for non-THM, eat a taco salad or use a low carb tortilla for THM.

Grilled Chicken and Baked Potato
* White Potato for non-THM and sweet potato for THM

Stir Fry
* Stir fry the vegetables and protein. Serve white rice with the non-THM meals, serve THM plates with brown rice or cauli rice.

Keeping Hubby Happy On THM

My husband has been eating on plan with me for a couple of years now on and off. I have a few tips for success that may help you help your husband.

They Need More XO’s

So my husband doesn’t have any significant amount of weight to lose. He wants to lose 10 lbs or so. But in order to keep him full and prevent hangry episodes, he needs occasional XO’s.

Many times creating that S Helper or crossover is just a slice or two of sprouted bread to the S meal plate.

Snacks

I don’t know about your husband, but mine loves to snack. I try to make sure that I have easy snacks that he can grab and go.

I also make sure to provide things that he will like. Pork rinds, nuts, jerky and cheese are favorites of his.

Yes, a big handful of mini peppers would be great at snack time but I know he won’t do that. So I just don’t push it.

Nuts and cheese is better than a snack cake or a big bag of chips!

I hope these tips help you with Trim Healthy Mama and your husband. Keep up with the THM A to Z series to see all of questions answered.

No Sugar Added Mango Bai Sorbet

September 21, 2019 by Stacy Craft Leave a Comment

No sugar added mango Bai sorbet is a refreshing after dinner treat.

THM E Blender No Sugar Added Mango Bai Sorbet

No Sugar Added Bai Mango Sorbet

Being aware of the things that are in the foods that we consume is something that I have cared more and more about lately. I still eat fast food and eat a piece of candy or some chips on occasion. I’m not talking about being perfect with eating (although if you are, go you). I’m simply more aware of the foods that my family consumes.

It is really amazing the things that you will find in products that are marketed to people that are health conscious and looking for better options. Last week I made some low fat Southwest protein bowls for the freezer and  spent some time researching nutrition labels for frozen tv dinners. It was shocking to see all of the strange ingredients in these heat and eat “healthy” meals.

So after checking that out, I was even more convicted to try to do better. Perfect? Nope. Just better.

Enter in this no sugar added mango Bai Sorbet. Just a few simple ingredients that are all approved on the Trim Healthy Mama plan that I follow.

(Affiliate Links are used in this post. A small commission may be paid to me at no extra cost to you and that helps to support this page. Please see my disclosures page for additional information.)

No Sugar Added Mango Bai Sorbet – THM E

A dessert with just a couple of healthy ingredients is right up my alley for a weeknight treat. It is nice to be able to feed my kids a little “icecream” treat filled with fruit and only things that I want in there.

To make this no sugar added mango Bai sorbet you only need 3 items and you should be able to find all 3 at your local Walmart.

Here is what you need for this frozen fruit sorbet:

  • Mango Bai
  • Unsweetned Almond or Oat Milk
  • Frozen Mango

Making The Sorbet Frozen Dessert

To make this recipe, just gather your 3 ingredients and your blender.

3 Ingredient Malwai Mango Freezer Sorbet

Add the frozen mango to the blender and add the liquids. Blend until smooth.

You can eat it at this point but it will be very soft, similar to a thick smoothie.

No Sugar Blender Mango Sorbet Treat - THM E

I like to spread the no sugar added mango Bai sorbet into a small pyrex dish. Cover and place in the freezer for about 1.5 to 2 hours.

The sorbet will firm up some but not be a block of ice at this point.

Tips For the Perfect Sorbet

  • Freeze for 1-2 hours to firm the mixture.
  • If the sorbet is too thick, add a 1/4 cup extra Bai beverage

Easy Blender Fruit Sorbet for a simple Kid Friendly Dessert

Trim Healthy Mama E Dessert

Ya’ll know that I lost 60 lbs postpartum with my 2nd child by following the Trim Healthy Mama Plan. If you are also on the THM plan, this recipe is an E.

I have a decent amount of easy S desserts that I rotate but not a ton of E treats. Lots of times, I will just have a little fruit with my E meal but a refreshing no sugar added mango Bai sorbet makes me extra happy.

And it is a super easy recipe, so even a Drive Thru Sue might want to try it!

Slow Cooker Zevia Cola Pulled Pork

May 22, 2019 by Stacy Craft 14 Comments

Slow cooker Zevia cola pulled pork recipe is an easy 3 ingredient dinner that the whole family will enjoy.

Slow Cooker Zevia Pulled Pork for Trim Healthy Mama S or E Meal

I grew up in Memphis, TN where bbq is king. There are so many awesome restaurants that feature a slightly different take on the Memphis tradition. If you are ever in the area, some of my favorites are the Rendezvous, Central BBQ, Germantown Commissary and Corky’s.

We like to pile BBQ on everything here. You will find it piled onto nachos, stuffed in eggrolls, on baked potatoes, as a main course salad and of course on a big bun with lots of creamy slaw. Since we live in one of the BBQ meccas of the United States, we eat it a lot. Especially during graduation season, it is at just about every party that you attend.

And when we don’t feel like going out to eat bbq, we make this slow cooker Zevia cola pulled pork at home so that we can stay on the Trim Healthy Mama plan and still have a super easy meal. This is a twist on an old recipe favorite of mine that uses Coca-Cola. In an effort to eliminate sugar from my diet, I developed this equally delicious Zevia pork.

Slow Cooker Zevia Cola Pulled Pork

I love simple crock pot recipes that will feed a big, hungry family. If it is on our weekly meal rotation, you can bet it is probably kid friendly and easy. And I like to save money, so it is probably pretty frugal as well.

Most of my recipes here on the blog are Trim Healthy Mama compatible and many also fit within low carb/Keto diets as well. This recipe is fun because if you follow THM, it can be an E or an S meal. I will show you how to make each variation below. (And if you stumbled upon this recipe and have no idea what THM is, you can read how I lost 60 lbs on plan here).

Crockpot Dump And Go

So when I’m looking for a crockpot recipe, if it wants me to sear meat or do anything remotely complicated I move on. To me the crockpot is meant to simplify my life and I’m certainly not getting an extra pot dirty!

So this recipe for slow cooker Zevia cola pulled pork is a ridiculously easy dump and go meal!

S Meal Variation (Low Carb/Keto Friendly)

Choose a piece of pork and place it in your slow cooker. You can use a pork loin/shoulder.

Coat it with several generous shakes of a Memphis BBQ seasoning. We use the Corky’s Seasoning and the Rendezvous Seasoning at our home frequently. If you don’t use a Memphis seasoning, it will probably be just fine. Just don’t tell this Memphis girl about it!

For your last step, pour an entire can of Zevia cola over the pork. For a twist, you can use a can of Dr. Zevia.

Turn your slow cooker on low for 8-10 hours.

After it is done, take the meat out of the slow cooker. Shred the pork and mix with your favorite on THM plan or sugar free bbq sauce.

My favorite low carb way to have the Zevia pulled pork is on a big salad. My first meal in the hospital after delivering my second child was a big pulled pork salad from Germantown Commissary. I told ya’ll we were serious about our BBQ here!

You could also try it in a low carb wrap, on a low carb bun or a lettuce wrap. Or as a quesadilla or pulled pork taco on a low carb tortilla.

E Meal Variation (Healthy Carbs/Low Fat)

On Trim Healthy Mama, an E meal consists of healthy carbs and one that is low in fat. Out of your pork options, a pork tenderloin is the one option that is deemed ok for an E meal. And it just so happens to be my favorite cut to use in slow cooker Zevia cola pulled pork so that is pretty awesome.

Follow the exact same instructions that are listed above. The cooking instructions don’t change a bit.

When you get ready to serve your pork, you will choose a healthy carb to put on your plate with your pork to convert this into an E meal. A big sprouted bun will make a nice “E” pork sandwich. A baked sweet potato topped with pulled pork and a Light Laughing Cow cheese wedge is surprisingly yummy as well. There is something about that sweet combo that makes it a yummy treat.

If you need other Trim Healthy Mama ideas, be sure to follow me on Pinterest and my THM Food Diary on Insta.
