The one thing about Halloween that I didn’t fully grasp before becoming a mom was all the sugar surrounding the holiday. Of course I knew a big orange Jack O Lantern bucket would come home filled with candy on Halloween night after a long evening of Trick or Treating.

What I didn’t realize was that there would be school parties and fall festivals and hay rides and trunk or treats that seem to take up the entire month of October. All of these activities seem to center around candy and treat bags and cupcakes.

I don’t mind my kids having treats but 31 days in a row seems a little excessive so I created a list of store bought Halloween snacks that aren’t candy.

Some on this list are healthier than others. I think it is important to remember that these are still treats so it isn’t going to be like giving out carrot sticks but they are an improvement from just pure sugar candies. (And your kids will still like you, not sure about that if you start handing out carrots!)

Store Bought Halloween Snacks That Aren’t Candy

When you need something to take to a school class party, there is not always time to whip up some crafty Pinterest masterpiece.

This list of store bought Halloween snacks that aren’t candy provides at least a slightly healthier option for your kiddos and their friends.

Also, since candy has gotten so expensive, some of these make economical treats to hand out on Halloween night to your Trick or Treating crowd. All of these items are individually packaged if you want to pass out on Halloween or if your school requires the treat to be packaged by the manufacturer.

You know what I hate about school treat bags that come home from the holiday parties besides the 32 pounds of sugar that my kids are going to want to eat? All the little junk favors and trinkets that inevitably make their way into the bag.

It gets played with for two seconds and then it is ready for the trash. Or worse it is spread out all over the house creating messes that I try very hard to keep at bay.

I also really don’t like the fact that other parents spent their hard earned money on stuff that doesn’t get appreciated (you know how I like saving money for important things). So I decided to put together a list of Halloween favors that won’t get trashed by kids or their parents.

These could be sent to school for goodie bags, used at trunk or treats or handed out to Trick Or Treat kids on Halloween Night.

Halloween Favors That Won’t Get Trashed

It is hard to find favors that will actually get used because you are usually having to buy for a large number of kids. It would be great to get a nice toy for each kid but of course that isn’t reasonable when you need to buy for 20+ kids in a classroom or even more if you are handing out treats on Halloween night.

This list of Halloween favors that won’t get trashed showcases items that will get used and played with but that cost $1 or less per kid (many cost just a few cents per child).

And I know I said 16 but I have added a few new ones for the 2022 season!

Cat Headband Multi Pack – I know my 5 year old would go crazy for these.

WikkiStix Trick Or Treat Pack – I was so very excited to find this so it is #1 on my list. This pack of 50 is currently less than $0.40 per kid (Prices change frequently). If you aren’t familiar with Wikki Stix, they are pieces of yarn that are covered in moldable wax. This kit comes with 8 Wikki Stix per kit and a Halloween Activity sheet. I just ordered these for my daughter’s preschool class!

Make A Pumpkin Sticker Kit – I like these better than just Halloween stickers because it encourages the children to use their creativity to design a Jack O Lantern face on their pumpkin. A cute craft that would be fun for several age groups.

Make A Monster Sticker Kit – Similar to the pumpkin kit but this one features a monster that the kids can design.

Assorted Halloween Jigsaw Puzzles – My kids love puzzles and these Halloween themed kits would be great to hand out as a fun alternative to candy.

Multi-Color Stackable Crayon – Crayons are always a product that actually gets used at my house and these have the added element of looking cool.

6 Pg Halloween Coloring Book – Coloring is a staple for most kids! These cute and classic Halloween scenes make for a fun favor. Pair it with a stackable Crayon above.

Lip Smacker Skittles Lip Balm Party Pack – I love that these have a candy theme for a Halloween party favor. Just pop open the master pack and hand out one to each kiddo. These cupcake lip balms are cute too!

Halloween Pencils, 48 Pk – These can be used at school or to draw something fun at home.

Glow In the Dark Plastic Jack O Lantern Cups – These would be fun for the kids to drink their milk at breakfast from a glow in the dark cup.

Bendy Skeleton Straws – You could add these to the cups above and spend just over $1 a kid. I probably wouldn’t do this for Halloween night because we get so many kids to the door but it could be a really cute favor to send to school or Mother’s Day Out.

Halloween Sand Art Picture – Another little craft kit to hold a kids attention for a bit. We always enjoy seasonal or holiday specific art projects at our house.

Glow In The Dark Halloween Rubber Ducks – Do your kids love bath toys? My 4 & almost 1 year old sure do! These would be cute to send for the daycare kids.

Halloween Bubbles – My favorite line from the movie Knocked up: “I wish I liked anything as much as my kids like bubbles.” Isn’t that the truth? Kids go crazy for bubbles and these are in a cute, Halloween container.

Scholastic Books – Spookley The Square Pumpkin is only $1 through Scholastic. I think it would be awesome to give a book to your kids classmates this Halloween!

Superhero Masks – Kids love to play dress up and what better time to do that then at Halloween!

Play Doh Favors – Of course this had to make the list of non-candy Halloween favors that won’t get trashed. Play Doh is fun. Kids love it. The End.

Hopefully this list of Halloween favors that won’t get trashed helps you to fill up your treat bags this Halloween.
