Create a cute Dollar Tree 100th Day of School Old Lady Costume for your elementary school child.
Some things you start to look forward to years before they actually happen. Even the small things and the 100th day of school was one of those things for me.
I remember years ago seeing outfits and costumes on Pinterest celebrating this mid year milestone and thinking it was so cute. I was excited to play dress up with my little ones. And today was my daughter’s first 100th day of school.
We had a good time and a lot of laughs this morning preparing our little old lady for her 100th day of school. And it went really smoothly thanks to a quick trip to the store and a tiny bit of planning.
This Dollar Tree 100th day of school old lady costume is easy and cheap when you combine it with a couple of closet staples!

Dollar Tree 100th Day of School Old Lady Costume
You only need a couple of Dollar Tree staples in order to create an elderly dress up outfit.
Here is what I picked up at the Dollar store:
- Reading Glasses
- Beaded Glasses Lanyard (I found these on the glasses display)
- Women’s Pantyhose
- Floral Infinity Scarf
So for $4, I had the start of a great old lady outfit.
Things we had on hand:
- Lightweight Cardigan
- Floral Dress
- Baby Powder
- Hair Spray
- Curling Wand
- Costume Jewelry – Pearls
Creating A Great 100 Year Old Dress Up Day Outfit
Start by popping out the lenses on the reading glasses & attaching the lanyard.
Next, have your child dress in a floral top or dress, a cardigan and leggings if it is cold out.
Cut the top off of the pantyhose so that the legs separate. Add a stocking to each leg and roll it down, old lady style.
Now you need to get some old lady hair going.
I used a curling wand to create tight curls at the base of my daughter’s head. Once you create those curls, spray them like crazy with hair spray so that they stay.
I also added some baby powder at the roots of her hair and around her face to mimic grays. Spray some more hairspray to get the powder to stick.
The infinity scarf was the last part of the hair plan. I wanted to wrap the floral scarf around her head and tie it. You know how old lady’s do that? But my old lady wanted no part of it so we had to skip that part.
Throw on some pearls as you are walking out the door & your Dollar Tree 100th Day of School old lady costume will be the hit of the classroom.
And your wallet and your sanity will thank you. Cheap, Easy and fun. The perfect trio for dress up day at school! And now I have to go plan something for tomorrow.
Tomorrow marks day 101. So of course they are supposed to dress up as a 101 dalmatian.
This mama loves dressing up but also wonders who thought two back to back dress up days was a good idea!?
