THM Cookies N Cream Protein Dalgona

November 2, 2020 by Stacy Craft Leave a Comment

The dalgona coffee craze started during quarantine and has branched off into all kinds of fun drinks! I’ve seen strawberry flavored and even a Nutella dalgona.

This Trim Healthy Mama version skips the coffee and includes the THM cookies n cream protein powder in this dalgona style beverage.

I’m not on Tik Tok (I think I might be too old for that!) but some of my friends are and during quarantine they taught me about dalgona coffee.

A what kind of coffee?! If you were like me and didn’t know about this Korean beverage, you are not alone. The traditional version is made by whipping instant coffee, sugar and hot water together to make a whippy, foamy topping.

Then the topping goes over a glass with ice and milk. And while a coffee version of this would also be good, I skipped it in this recipe making this a great bedtime snack option!

This THM cookies n cream protein dalgona drink is easy to make for a quick sweet treat.

THM Cookies N Cream Protein Dalgona

I’m all about quick and easy on plan meals and snacks. I particularly like this one because it feels a little fun and fancy even though it takes just a couple of minutes to make.

Here is what you need for the THM Cookies N Cream Protein Dalgona drink:

  • THM Cookies N Cream Protein Powder
  • Heavy Cream
  • Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • Vanilla Sweet Drops or sweetener of your choice
  • High Key Brownie Bites (Optional for Garnish)

Making the THM Dalgona Beverage

To make this dalgona inspired beverage, start by adding the cream and protein powder into a bowl. Using a stand or hand mixer, whip the cream and protein powder until it is thick and forming peaks.

Add the Sweet Drops and mix briefly again.

In a small cup (I used a stemless wine glass), add ice and fill about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way full. Next, spoon the whipped protein mixture on top.

Garnish with a couple of crushed High Key brownie bite cookies and serve immediately.

Fuel Type: S – the fat from the HWC and cookies make this an S drink.

What if I don’t have the THM Cookies N Cream Protein Powder?

You could sub a vanilla protein powder and mix in a couple of extra High Key cookies for a similar taste.

You could also mix in a little black or regular cocoa powder.

Can I Add Coffee?

Of course! Coffee makes everything better!

You could add the instant coffee with the whipping cream for a traditional Dalgona. However, I think it would be really good to fill a cup with ice and a cold brew coffee and then top it with the cookies n cream whipped protein mix.

Boxed Macaroni and Cheese Protein Hack

Easy boxed macaroni and cheese protein hack to make your kid’s favorite meal a little healthier.

Protein hack for boxed mac n cheese

Do you remember before you had kids and the thoughts that would go through your head? My kid will NEVER act like that in public. My child will never leave toys all over my living room. My little one will eat a balanced diet and will not be one of those that only eats chicken nuggets and mac n cheese.

It is pure entertainment to think back on those “my child will never” statements from my pre-kid years. And now as a mama, I work on things like making a boxed macaroni and cheese protein hack to ensure that these little tiny children get something good into their bellies.

Providing Kids with Proper Nutrients is Hard

My 4 year old only started eating meat within the last few months. I spent months trying to get her to try meat and she just did not want to. Her gag reflex is on point and the texture really got to her. So I slathered peanut butter on everything and prayed that she was getting the nutrients that she needed. Yes, I got one of those picky eaters that I swore I would never allow pre-motherhood.

One food that I could not figure out how to pile high with peanut butter was her beloved mac n cheese. Now I know that we can probably name off 1000 things that we would rather feed our kids than boxed mac n cheese. But, we are moms and know that a box of that cheesy goodness makes it to our table fairly often.

When choosing convenience foods, I like to look for the healthiest possible choice that the grocery store has to offer. Annie’s Organic Macaroni and Cheese  is a choice that I feel good about feeding my family. And even better, I found the answer to my need for protein in the pasta right on the back of the box!

Boxed Macaroni and Cheese Protein Hack

Increasing the amount of protein in your boxed macaroni in cheese is so simple and your kids will not even notice the change.

Boil your pasta as instructed on the package. Drain the pasta into a colander and set aside.

Next add the butter and cheese packet to your warm pot. Now here is your boxed macaroni and cheese protein hack, sub the milk for 3 tablespoons of greek yogurt. By adding this yogurt, you are adding in additional grams of protein to the mac and cheese entree.

Protein is so important to help kids stay full longer. Which reduces that snack, snack, snack commentary that I know you are tired of hearing all day. Every day.

See you could never tell by looking at it (or tasting it) that you have it packed with good for you greek yogurt.

My kid will eat 3 square meals and won’t eat goldfish all day long. -Former Self, Year 2012.

I hope this boxed macaroni and cheese protein hack helps you to make a small change to make your kids meals a little healthier.

Easy Protein Packed Low Carb Salad

May 7, 2018 by Stacy Craft Leave a Comment

Protein Packed Low Carb Salad (Trim Healthy Mama “S”)

Down the road from my office is a little Italian hole in the wall type of place. They have yummy food but Italian and being able to button my pants don’t usually work together. It’s like I can have one or the other. I’m also not a salad kinda girl when there are delicious things like manicotti and lasagna available. But I decided to be good one day and got what they called their “Mama’s Salad.” Much to my surprise, it was a delicious and filling protein packed low carb salad that satisfied me (and kept that pesky pant button comfortably closed).

Since I also like saving money, spending $7 or $8 on a salad during my lunch hour isn’t something I want to do every day. So here I have found a way to recreate it at home. It is super simple and you can throw it together in just a few minutes.

First, gather your ingredients.  I used baby spinach for my base but you could sub mixed greens or romaine. You also need to grab your protein. Today I used ham lunchmeat and pepperoni. I like to use thinly sliced salami as well but I was out. You also want a sliced cheese. My preference is a freshly sliced cheese from the deli because it crumbles less but anything will work.

Next, place one slice of cheese on a cutting board. Layer on your meats – I did pepperoni and then a slice or two of ham.

Then you are going to roll it up jelly roll style. If the cheese cracks, don’t worry about it just keep rolling. I try to “Squish” it down (like that culinary term?) to help it all stay together.

Meat Roll ups

Slice them into about 1/2 inch pieces. The rolling style of the meat and cheese is the secret to this protein packed low carb salad. There is something about the big, thick slices of meat and cheese that make it seem more filling.

Sliced Roll ups

Simply place the rolls on top of your greens and top with your favorite dressing. I use ranch to add in some extra fats when I am eating Low Carb/Keto/THM. If you are following Trim Healthy Mama, this is an “S” meal.
