9 Store Bought THM On Plan Cereal

April 17, 2021 by Stacy Craft Leave a Comment

Trim Healthy Mamas sometimes need an easy & Drive Thru Sue meal. Here are 9 Store Bought THM on plan cereal brands that you can grab at the supermarket.

9 Store Bought THM Cereals & What to SKip

A bowl of cold cereal with milk was my standard “I’m not cooking but need to eat” meal before I started Trim Healthy Mama. It is easy, good and comfort food to me.

But on Trim Healthy Mama is there an on plan cereal option? Yes Ma’am. You are in luck. There are several store bought THM on plan cereal choices.

Store Bought THM On Plan Cereal

If you have a trip to the grocery store planned, this list of cold cereal options for Trim Healthy Mama will help you select the right box.

Here are your store bought THM on plan cereal choices:

E Meal Cereal Options

  • Love Grown O’s (Original flavor only)
  • One Degree Sprouted Oat O’s
  • Uncle Sams
  • Ezekiel or Ezekiel Almond
  • Farmers We Know Sprouted Brown Rice Crisps

S Meal Cereal Options

  • Cinnamon Pecan Granola from the Granola Bakery
  • Nu Trail Keto Nut Granola
  • Coconut Crunch Cereal

FP Meal Cereal Options

  • Highkey Protein Cereal – this is right on the edge of a FP for fat. If you have any other fat from other foods, you would move into a S.

Not on Plan

  • Magic Spoon cereals – off plan due to the tapioca.
  • Kashi Go Keto – off plan due to the tapioca.

How to Make Sprouted Cereal Taste Good

The sprouted (E) cereals are not my cup of tea straight out of the box. But the whole point of paying for a box of cereal is to be able to pour cereal, dump milk and eat, right?

So don’t worry, the doctoring of this cereal isn’t complicated! You will need a few things to make the sprouted cereal taste like you want it to taste!

Love Grown O's Cereal

What you need:

  • On plan Cereal
  • On plan Sweetener (My favorite is this Monk Fruit or these Vanilla Sweet Drops)
  • Fruit
  • Regular or Vanilla Unsweetened Almond Milk

Pour the cereal, add a tsp (or to taste) of sweetener, some fruit and some almond milk. Grab your spoon, give it a stir and dig in!

Important Note: The E cereals are already giving you carbs so you want to be careful adding in additional fruit like bananas. Typically there is enough room in most to eat a half or a quarter banana into my bowl. Just check the nutrition label for the cereal you choose.

If you don’t want to deal with counting the carbs, I get it! You can always add some strawberries or blueberries and not worry about it.

How Often Can I Eat Store Bought THM Cereal

The variety of cold cereals listed above are definitely healthier than most items you will find in the cereal aisle of your local grocery store.

But even still, a store bought box of cereal is processed quite a lot. And Trim Healthy Mama really tries to focus on healthy, whole foods. So with that being said, the E cereals are a personal choice.

For personal choice items, the recommendation is to keep your portions to small amounts and limit the frequency of eating those items. I will tell you that I ate frankenfoods (PC) every single week while I was losing 60 lbs on THM. But just watch yourself and if you start to see a pause in weight loss, consider limiting the amount that you are eating.

And while we are talking about limit, if you follow me on TikTok or Insta you know that I don’t put a lot of work into counting anything on THM. Not calories, macros or even serving size. I do make an exception for these cereal choices though.

Since it is a personal choice (and I also like to add fruit to my bowl), I measure out a serving of cereal for a couple reasons. 1. I know how easy it is to pour a bowl of cereal that is actually about 4 servings! 2. I want to know exactly how many carbs are in my cereal so that I can add in an appropriate amount of banana without going over the limit.

*Note: the S granolas that are listed above are 100% on plan. Those are not a personal choice since they use only on plan ingredients and really have minimal processing. The Highkey S cereal would be a personal choice.

What Kind of Protein Goes with Cereal

Most of these cereals listed have at least some protein. And if you want to know the truth, I don’t often add extra protein when I’m having cereal for a meal.

But if you know you need more than what is in the cereal or you just aren’t a rule breaker, I got you.

Here are a few ideas to add in some extra protein with your store bought on plan THM cereal:

  • Greek Yogurt – This is a great way to enjoy those S cereals. Crunchy granola on yogurt is so delicious.
  • Collagen in your tea/coffee or mixed in your almond milk that will go on your cereal.
  • Protein Shake

11 THM On Plan Protein Bars

March 27, 2021 by Stacy Craft Leave a Comment

Need some THM on plan protein bars that you can buy at the grocery store? You are in luck, there are quite a few options!

THM On Plan Store Bought Protein Bars

It happens to us all. We end up working late, get stuck at the ball field all day long or simply decide to go grocery shop on an empty stomach.

You end up hangry and ready to inhale anything you can find. On plan what? You don’t even care. But you know you will regret an off plan choice later once those hunger pains wear off.

Or if you have you life together (unlike me!), you might be looking for a THM on plan protein bar that you can stash in your car, purse and desk drawer to always be ready for a protein emergency!

11 THM On Plan Protein Bars

Protein bars are tricky because most store bought protein bars have a lot of off plan ingredients, fillers and sweeteners.

But that doesn’t meen you are doomed to a life of making homemade protein bars! There are still lots of options that are either fully on plan or approved as a THM personal choice.

Here are your choices!

THM S Protein Bars

Kiss My Keto Bars (S)- You can find these on Amazon, Kroger, Walmart, Sams, Sprouts or Vitacost.

THM Protein Pleasure Cookie  (S)- From Official THM Store

THM Protein Chocolate Bar (FP) or Strawberry Baobab Bar (S)- From Official THM Store

Epic Bars (S)- While these are not your traditional protein bar, they are indeed packed with protein, portable and ready to eat!

THM Personal Choice Bars

Think Thin (S)

Quest (watch for those sweetened with Sucralose. Those are not even allowed as a personal choice). Here are the ones sweetened with only on plan sweeteners (S): Chocolate Hazelnut, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Sprinkled Doughnut, Cinnamon Roll, Double Chocolate Chunk, Lemon Cake, Mocha Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Brownie Smash.

Kirklands Protein Bars (from Costco – S)

B-Up Bars (S)

Built Bars (FP)

Love Good Fats Bars (S) – Not highly endorsed due to the syrups.

No Cow Protein Bars (S)

Kind Bars (S) the dark chocolate and sea salt variety is your best option with this one.

Are Larabars THM Approved?

Larabars are not on plan. Although the THM app does say that they could be used as a rare personal choice if you are pregnant, nursing or at goal weight (and it would be a XO). The reason that Larabars are NOP is because it is dried fruit combined with fats.

The dates & dried fruit are likely to spike blood sugar.

What about the other fruit bars that are on the market? Most of these will still be a personal choice because of the concentrated fruit which is higher in natural sugar but there are some decent choices.

And I’m always going to say that any of these are better than a candy bar or a drive thru burger! So if it is between eating this or making a really bad choice, eat the fruit bar.

  • Pressed by Kind (E) – These are low in fat and fit in the carbs for an E meal. They are also date free which I like and contain only on plan ingredients. But at only 1 gm of protein, you will have to add in a protein source.
  • That’s It (E) – These contain only 2 on plan ingredients and are date free. Same as above, they are low in fat and fit the carbs but you will need protein.

Again, these have fruit in a concentrated amount so I wouldn’t make a daily thing out of these. But to keep in your purse in case of emergency? I feel good about it.

THM Store Bought On Plan Bread

June 17, 2020 by Stacy Craft 2 Comments

A huge list of THM store bought on plan bread options that you can purchase at your local grocery store.

12 THM Store Bought Breads for the Drive Thru Sue

Lots of THM beginners want to know what kind of bread you can have that is on the Trim Healthy Mama plan.

And with that I mean what kind of store bought bread can you have. I mean, I’m not a drive thru Sue all the time but I’m also not Betty Crocker either.

You know that saying “the best thing since sliced bread?” It didn’t come about with busy mama’s making bread.

Nobody wants to have to make and slice their own bread. (OK, I actually want to & it is on my THM bucket list to grow one of those creepy sourdough starters in a mason jar on my counter, feed it and make my own beautiful loaf. But I am a working mama of 2 young kids. No time for now!)

Finding THM Store Bought Sprouted Bread At The Grocery

If you are looking at breads, the first ingredient should be a sprouted grain and there should be less than 2 grams of sugar (1 is preferred).

To save you the trouble of reading every bread label, here are some commonly used THM store bought on plan breads.

Need Store Bought On the Go THM snacks? Click Here!

Found at Most Large Grocery Chains (Walmart, Kroger, Target)

You may be able to find these at additional grocery stores but this is where I have found them in my area.

Ezekiel Sprouted Bread – Look for it in the freezer section (Kroger, Walmart, Target)

Silver Hills Sprouted Bread (Target, Sprouts, Whole Foods)

Pepperidge Farms Soft Sprouted Bread (Target, Kroger, Walmart)

Greenwise Sprouted Multi-Grain Bread (Publix Bakery)

Simple Truth Sprouted Grain & Legume Bread (Kroger)

Found Primarily at Specialty Stores (Aldi, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Costco)

Knock Your Sprouts Off Bread (Aldi)

Sly Red Ancient Grains (Aldi)

Trader Joe’s Sprouted Sourdough

Alvarado St. Bakery Sprouted Bread (Whole Foods, Natural Grocers)

Angelic Sprouted Bread (Sprouts, Costco, The Fresh Market or order direct from site)

THM On Plan Store Bought Sourdough Bread

Trim Healthy Mama on plan store bought sourdough can be hard to find but it is possible.

Here is the sourdough criteria:

  • First Ingredient should be Whole Grain
  • Yeast should NOT be in the ingredients

Trader Joe’s has an on plan sourdough. You may also find an on plan sourdough at some specialty store bakeries like Sprouts or Whole Foods.

Serving Size & Fuel Type

Bread is a carb source so traditionally it is going to be used in “E” Meals.

E Meal Bread Serving Size : 2 Slices

But if you want to get crazy, you can also have some bread with “S” foods. Wait, what?!

You mean to tell me I could have a piece of cheese toast? Or I could sop up a nice runny egg with a piece of toast?

Yes Ma’am! This is called an S Helper. It is when you go over the carb limit for an S meal but don’t add enough carbs to move into XO (crossover) territory.

S Helper Bread Serving Size: 1 Slice

If you have more than 1 piece of bread with other S foods, you would move into XO territory.

The Exception To The Rule – S Bread

Zero Net Carb Bread – Aldi

If you have an Aldi near you, they have a relatively new product Zero Net Carb bread.

Here is a picture of it & a review from the Aldi Reviewer.

I have tried it and I like it. If you get this bread, you can eat it in an S meal and keep it in S territory (no S helper or XO). I like having that option.

*Note: The THM team calls this one a personal choice. It is not for the purists at heart but I’m definitely not that.

Keto White

This is another personal choice bread that can be eaten in an S meal.

I have had the hamburger buns and they taste so much like normal white bread (even my bread loving husband liked them).

How to Eat (& Like) Sprouted Bread

If you have not eaten sprouted bread before it does take a little adjusting to. Especially if you are coming from a super soft white bread.

So what is the key to liking sprouted bread?

I have found that toasting the bread is my favorite way to eat it. I honestly don’t care for ANY of the sprouted breads that I have tried fresh out of the bag (and I have tried a lot).

But toast it up in the toaster and it is great with on plan peanut butter, Light Laughing Cow Cheese, Polaner’s jelly or sandwich fixins like this THM E tuna salad.

THM On Plan Store Bought Wraps

June 22, 2020 by Stacy Craft 2 Comments

Trim Healthy Mama gets a lot easier when you can eliminate some of the cooking and use on plan, store bought options.

This list is full of THM on plan store bought wraps and tortillas.

14 Store bought THM Wraps and Tortillas

The hardest thing to me about lowering carbs in a meal is that there is nothing to wrap your food up in.

Because lets be honest, when we are short on time what do we grab? A quick sandwich, a burger or a wrap is easy and portable for eating on the run.

But what do you do on THM?

Well there are actually quite a few options! And don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you that your only option is a lettuce wrap.

While I can deal with a lettuce wrap sometimes, there are situations where you want something a little heartier than that. So I’ve got you covered on yummy and satisfying THM on plan store bought wraps for sandwiches and other fillings.

THM On Plan Store Bought Wraps

Here is something weird about most of the Trim Healthy Mama wrap options. Most of them are Fuel Pull’s.

And just about every beginner has a hard time wrapping their brain around that. Because it seems like they should be an “E.”

Also, most of the FP wraps are also frankenfoods. That means you should limit your consumption of those items.

Typically people say once or twice a week. I have overdone it on these on more than one occasion. I feel like they are better than a couple of big slices of white bread.

But the recommendation is there so follow it as you see fit.

THM FP Wraps

Roll up on THM APproved Wrap

Joseph’s Lavash Bread* – Limit to 1/2 a sheet in any setting.

Joseph’s Pita Bread* – 1 whole pita in any setting

Mission Carb Balance Tortillas* – Flour, Whole Wheat or Spinach

Egg Thins with Cauliflower

Flatout Light* – Make sure you get the Light.

Plant Power Sandwich Thins

Ole Xtreme Wellness*

La Banderita Low Carb Tortillas*

Lettuce Wraps – This is my least favorite! But including it in case you are better than me at pretending it is bread.

*Indicates Frankenfood or Personal Choice

THM S Wraps

Folios Cheese Wraps

THM E Wraps

Angelic 7 Sprouted Wrap

Sprouted Corn Tortillas

Where to buy the THM Tortillas and Flatbreads

Lavash Lasagna Cups

Most of the items listed above can be found at normal grocery stores (Walmart, Kroger, HEB, Target Superstores).

The cheese wraps and the egg thins have both been spotted at Aldi from time to time.

And some of the specialty stores (Sprouts, Whole Foods etc) have some of the more specialty items like the Angelic sprouted wrap or the sprouted corn tortillas.

If you live in an area that has limited access to these, you can order direct from many of these companies on their website or of course on Amazon.

For example, the Walmart near me that normally carries Joseph’s products was out for several weeks in a row. So I ordered directly on the Joesph’s site and just got enough for free freight. The product freezes. well.

More Trim Healthy Mama Bread Options

You can read the store bought bread list here.

There are also a few other products from the grocery that you may enjoy.

Smart Buns  – FP

Ezekiel English Muffins

Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin Bread – this is one that you are encouraged to keep at 2 slices and limit your usage because of the dried fruit. But I love cinnamon raisin bread and love having an option that is better than what I would otherwise buy.

THM Store Bought Desserts

December 7, 2020 by Stacy Craft 2 Comments

Looking for easy THM store bought desserts that you can grab at your local grocery store or on Amazon?

This huge list will give you tons of options that you can treat yourself with while staying on plan and not having to bake a thing.

23 Store Bought THM Desserts

If you have been on THM for a little bit, you may be seeking some easy ideas for sweet treats after a meal. One of the fun things about Trim Healthy Mama is that you can have your cake and eat it too!

And while there on tons of treats that you can make at home, sometimes an on plan store bought dessert is just what you need to make it through. Eat it at home, keep some in your purse or at the office to always be able to make good choices when that sweet tooth hits.

(Affiliate Links are used in this post. A small commission may be paid to me at no extra cost to you and that helps to support this page. Please see my disclosures page for additional information.)

THM Store Bought Desserts

I struggled with whether or not I should write this post. Mostly because I don’t want to discourage you from trying the plan because a lot of these items listed are expensive when you compare them to their sugar filled alternative.

However, I have a few comments on this. #1. These THM store bought desserts are not meant to be binged on. And while you may see people eating a slice of Trimtastic cake for breakfast, I use these treats for what they are – treats.

Have the recommended serving size after a meal or as a snack for something to satisfy your sweet tooth as needed.

#2. When you follow the portion control for these desserts, the cost works out to be reasonable. For example, I usually find that a Lily’s chocolate bar in my town is $3.99 not on sale. You get 4 servings from that bar. So while $4 for a chocolate bar seems steep, $1 per serving isn’t too bad.

So please don’t be discouraged by these prices! If you can’t afford the store bought items, there are plenty of things that you can make that are on plan and less expensive.

Also, it isn’t like I have all of these THM store bought desserts at my house at one time. Normally I might by a couple of items per week. Do what works for you, your family & your grocery budget.

And what you have been waiting for, here is the list of Trim Healthy Mama treats that you can buy at the store!
